STATEMENT OF POLICY

Canadian Fishing Company (Canfisco) is committed to sourcing sustainable tuna.  We are continuously monitoring our supply ensuring that our tuna is sourced from fisheries that do not endanger any tuna stock nor the survival or health of other marine species.

Tuna are a highly migratory species and require a coordinated international effort to ensure their sustainability.  Canfisco supports efforts by national governments, regional management agencies, industry and non-governmental organizations to manage tuna fisheries on a sustainable basis. Canfisco is committed to utilizing the best available scientific information and sustainable practices for all sourcing decisions.   As the state of sustainable tuna fishery management continues to advance led by emerging non-governmental organizations, Canfisco’s procurement policy will evolve to maintain its relevance and incorporate the latest sustainable compliance systems.  We will communicate these changes through our web site.

The Canfisco group’s procurement decisions are based around the following criteria:

Traceability - All tuna products to have full documentation including:

• Catch certificate
  - Species common name/latin name
  
  
• Captain's Statement
  - United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) catch area
  - Owner of catch vessel and country where owner is based
  - Gear type and exact fishing method
  - Name of catch vessel
  
  
• Port of landing/transshipment carrier
  
  
• Names and location of processor

IUU - No tuna products will be sourced from illegal, unregulated, and unreported fishing vessels.

Third Party Certification - Preference for sourcing from independently certified sustainable fisheries where possible.
